MBSE Adoption Survey 2026: SysML v2 Deployment Lags Behind Evaluation

A practitioner survey across 340 organizations finds 71% have evaluated SysML v2, but fewer than 18% have deployed tools in production. Integration with legacy model repositories and training gaps are the primary blockers.

Survey Methodology

The 2026 MBSE Practitioners Survey gathered responses from 340 organizations across aerospace, defense, automotive, and medical device sectors. Conducted Q1 2026 with a 34% response rate from an invited panel.

Key Findings

  • 71% of organizations have evaluated SysML v2 tooling
  • Only 18% have production deployments
  • Top blocker: legacy model migration complexity (67%)
  • Second blocker: insufficient certified training (52%)
  • Aerospace and defense lead adoption at 29% production deployment
  • Automotive and medical trail at 11% and 9% respectively

Outlook

Respondents forecast production deployment rates will reach 35–40% by 2028, contingent on vendor investment in migration tooling.
