Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 1, 2026
SYLEN ("we", "our", "us") operates the website at sylen.org (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: When you register, we collect your email address and any profile data you choose to provide (name, handle, headline, location, domains, tags).
- Content you create: Posts, comments, paper submissions, and other contributions you make on the platform are stored and associated with your account.
- Usage data: Standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We use this data solely for operating and improving the Service.
- Authentication data: If you sign in via Google OAuth, we receive your email address and public Google profile information. We do not receive your Google password.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To display your public profile to other members (when visibility is set to public).
- To send transactional emails such as account confirmation and submission status updates.
- To moderate community content and enforce our community guidelines.
- To improve the Service through aggregated, anonymized analytics.
3. Visibility Controls
Your profile visibility is set to public by default once you complete your profile. You can change this to private in your profile settings at any time. Private profiles are not shown in profile search results. Your content (posts, comments) may remain visible to members even if your profile is private.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Supabase: Our database and authentication provider. Data is stored on Supabase-managed infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Vercel: Our hosting provider. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
- Law enforcement or other parties when required by law.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request account deletion by emailing us (see contact information below). Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed within 30 days. Content you've posted may be anonymized rather than deleted to maintain community context.
6. Cookies
We use cookies strictly necessary for authentication (session tokens). We do not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but this will prevent you from signing in.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
